Swordfighting Displays
Many of the quayside guides have been trained in the art of swordfighting at the Royal Armoury in Leeds. Call to find out when you can see them display their skills. If you are bringing a group or school or booking a party for a small extra charge, a demonstration can be arranged especially for you. Cannon firing and Musketry Display are also a regular event. Just be prepared for the noise!!
Re-Enactments
During each school holiday our re-enactment group 'Sons of the Seas' take up residency at the quay. Sailors, pirate, marines and more. In the summer you may even see them rowing around Jackson Dock. Watch out though, they are always on the look-out to 'pressgang' any likely visitor they may see. They can earn quite a tidy sum from His Majesty's Navy (off the record of course)!
Hartlepool Tall Ships Races 2010
7 - 10 August 2010
The town will welcome a magnificent fleet of around 100 tall ships after being chosen by race organisers Sail Training International to be the finishing point for the race. And we want you to be part of it!! So what's it all about? Hartlepool will greet the ships, which will have sailed from Kristiansand in Norway on the second and final leg of the race. The town already has good links with the tall ships and their captains after almost 40 vessels visited Hartlepool en route to Newcastle Gateshead, who hosted the event in 2010. During their stay, the ships will be berthed in Hartlepool Quays, and there will be a large number of special events organised in the run up and during the the huge celebrations in August 2010. At the heart of the festivities will be over 4,000 young people from over 20 countries. Hosting The Tall Ships' Races further highlights Hartlepool's well-deserved reputation as a first rate visitor destination. The whole event will be an amazing and colourful spectacle for the people of Hartlepool and the thousands of people who will come to witness this amazing spectacle. Make sure that you have the date in your diary and that you tell all friends and families and colleagues it is a must for theirs. www.hartlepooltallships2010.com
