About the Venue

Hartlepool's Maritime Experience is the premier maritime attraction in the North East of England. Located in this coastal town, it is a remarkable recreation of an 18th Century naval seaport themed around the time of Nelson, Napoleon and the Battle of Trafalgar.

The attention to detail is outstanding and the centrepiece is the awe-inspiring HMS Trincomalee, the oldest warship afloat in the whole of Europe. Built in 1817 in Bombay, India she is the last of the frigates of the Nelson era and is now a wonderful attraction and a spectacular place to take your vows and embark on your married life together.

Weddings and Civil Ceremonies onboard HMS Trincomalee

The bride will be the centre of attention when her wedding car pulls onto the quayside to the delight of the guests and visitors. Almost 200 years of history awaits you and your guests onboard this magnificent warship. Step onto to the Gun Deck and make your way down the red carpet, past the impressive cannons. Watch out for those low beams! Vows are taken in the Captain's Cabin, which is licenced for civil ceremonies and red-carpet weddings. A separate brochure is available from the Trust describing the arrangements that are to be made with the local Registrar. The chartering of HMS Trincomalee for a wedding provides one and a half hours' exclusive use. This allows plenty of time for the ceremony and unique photographic opportunities for the family album! Weddings on the ship are normally available in the mornings and from 4.30pm. Small receptions can be held on the Mess Deck. Catering is by Cleveland Caterers. The ship is also registered for Baby-Naming Ceremonies.

Your Reception

Although we strongly recommend you charter HMS Trincomalee for your ceremony, the Maritime Experience is a very popular choice for celebrations following a church wedding or a service at another venue.

Full support with the planning and co-ordination of your day or evening is assured. Cleveland Caterers offer the best in cuisine and customer care. Their aim is to make the organising process and the day itself as seamless and enjoyable as possible.

Sir William Gray Suite and Baltic Room

Our private rooms have impressive views of the historic quayside and HMS Trincomalee, then over Jackson Dock, to the yachts and boats sheltering in Hartlepool Marina.

Sir William Gray Suite is an elegant, large room, perfect for your wedding breakfast/dinner. Spacious and light, this is a location guaranteed to impress.

The Baltic Room is of similar size and has a more rustic feel with flagstone floors and an old world charm. It is the ideal venue for a summer bar-be-que and even better for pre-dinner drink for your wedding reception. The room has direct access onto the quayside.

A popular option is to hire both rooms and use one for the Wedding Breakfast / Dinner and the other for guests to mingle and enjoy the disco or band.

Each room caters for up to 100 guests banqueting style.
