With a monastery founded in 640AD, Hartlepool's Headland played an important part in the birth of Christianity in England. St. Hilda's dates from 1190AD, dominates the skyline and contains an interactive history of the area.
The Heugh Gun Battery
The Heugh (pronounced "Yuff") Gun Battery is a site of great significance. As a surviving 19th century coastal battery, complete with WW1 and WW2 modifications, it stands as a memorial to those lost during the great war.
The battery was the location of the only shore-to-ship combat in the whole of the UK during the Great War and home to the first person to die on British shores.It is a place that should stimulate the hearts as well as the minds of all who visit.

Hartlepool Marina
Hartlepool Marina is one of the most modern Marina facilities in Europe,

Seaton Carew
